Merritt Brown Middle School is proud to celebrate one of our own! Our Band Director, Jonathon Cason, has been selected as the 2025–2026 Bay District Schools Teacher of the Year, a prestigious honor that reflects his outstanding dedication, leadership, and impact on students. Now in his eighth year of teaching and fifth year leading our instrumental music program, Mr. Cason directs four ensembles—Beginning Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band—and has guided them to exceptional success. Under his leadership, performance ratings have risen to consistent “Superior” levels, and his students regularly earn top honors at Solo & Ensemble, All-County, and Florida All-State events.
While his program’s achievements are impressive, Mr. Cason’s greatest impact is felt in the relationships he builds and the culture he creates. Through daily encouragement, before-school mentorship, and individualized support, he ensures every student feels valued and motivated to succeed. He is also deeply involved in school and community events, helping showcase Merritt Brown’s talent through performances, celebrations, and outreach opportunities. Respected by colleagues, trusted by families, and admired by students, Mr. Cason represents the very best of Merritt Brown Middle School.
