Transition Planning for Military Families:

At Merritt Brown Middle School (MBMS) we play a crucial role in supporting military families during transition by offering services and resources. MBMS offers a comprehensive transition planning tailored to the needs of military children and families.

Our Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLAC) supports our military students with regular check-ins, lunch bunch meetings, as well as provides guidance and support to navigate the variability of military life.

Furthermore, MBMS offers vital information and resources to military students and their families, fostering a welcoming atmosphere where they can engage with others who share similar experiences.

Our committed liaisons for military matters, Lou Ellen Johnson and Rebecca Laster from the Guidance Department, are readily accessible to support military families. Feel free to contact them at (850)-767-3976 for assistance.

Academic Planning for Military Families:

Providing comprehensive academic planning and support services helps military students overcome challenges of frequent relocations making it a priority for MBMS. Individualized academic counseling is available through our Guidance Department to set course schedules involving ESE services, Advanced Placement options, or other flexible learning opportunities.

Through these meetings, academic planning is customized to address the distinctive needs and aspirations of military students, guaranteeing they have the essential assistance and resources to excel in their educational endeavors.

Resources for Military Families:

We are committed to offering military children a comprehensive educational experience that encompasses various aspects of learning and growth. Our students can engage in a diverse array of extracurricular pursuits, such as Art, Band, Agriculture, CTE (career & technical education) Athletics, and a variety of clubs. These activities not only promote individual development but also enable military students to bond with peers who have similar interests, fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging within the community.

Student-Led Transition Team (S2S Club):

At MBMS we have student ambassadors who are trained representatives who welcome and assist new military-connected students during the transition process. They give tours of the school, provide information about academic and extracurricular opportunities, and offer guidance on adjusting to the new school environment.

These ambassadors eagerly embrace the opportunity to welcome their fellow military peers and assist them in adjusting to their new academic surroundings.

Support for Military ESE Children:

Recognizing the unique needs of military children with exceptional requirements, we provide tailored support. This includes individualized sessions with our ESE Resource teacher to discuss Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

Our ESE and Guidance Department serves as a crucial asset for academic assistance, guaranteeing that military children with ESE needs obtain the specialized education they need.

Military Recognition Events:

Our school is dedicated to showing gratitude and respect to our military families. We organize events such as "Purple Up Day" and special ceremonies to honor both active duty and retired military parents.

These occasions are a symbol of our appreciation for the sacrifices made by military families and offer our school community the opportunity to express their thanks.

Mental Health Resources For Military Families:

We prioritize the welfare of military children and offer dedicated support to safeguard their mental health. Our students have access to TRIAD Counselors, ready to offer counseling and emotional assistance.

Our aim is to furnish every military child with the necessary resources for their mental and emotional welfare. In essence, our school is fully committed to empowering military children and their families, ensuring they excel academically, socially, and emotionally. We strive to facilitate a seamless educational experience and express our appreciation for their service through recognition events and comprehensive support services.
